About

Colum McCann is an Irish novelist and short-story writer celebrated for his lyrical prose and interconnected narratives exploring migration, identity, conflict, and the shared experiences that unite humanity. Born in Dublin in 1965, he worked as a journalist before moving to the United States, where he developed much of his literary career. His fiction often brings together characters from different backgrounds, weaving individual lives into broader historical and social contexts. His best-known novel, Let the Great World Spin (2009), interconnects the lives of strangers in 1970s New York around Philippe Petit’s high-wire walk between the World Trade Center towers and won the National Book Award. Other notable works include TransAtlantic (2013), which explores connections between Ireland and America across generations. Through his compassionate storytelling and innovative narrative structures, McCann examines the power of empathy, the consequences of violence, and the unexpected connections between people.
