About

Kaouther Adimi is an Algerian novelist born in Algiers in 1986. She spent part of her childhood in France before returning to Algeria, where her early experiences helped shape her interest in identity, belonging, and the relationship between Algeria and France. She later moved to Paris, where she continued her literary career. Adimi published her first novel, L’Envers des autres, in 2011. Her third novel, Nos richesses, appeared in France in 2017 and was published in English as A Bookshop in Algiers, translated by Chris Andrews. The novel received the Prix Renaudot des lycéens and the Prix du Style, alongside nominations for major French literary prizes. Her fiction often explores the ways history shapes individual lives, particularly in societies marked by colonialism, political upheaval, and cultural change. Through stories that connect personal memories with broader historical events, Adimi brings overlooked people and places back into view, asking how literature can preserve the stories that might otherwise be forgotten.
