Florence Knapp is a British writer whose work explores family, identity, and the experiences that shape people’s lives. Before turning to fiction, she wrote a nonfiction book about traditional quiltmaking and contributed to a publication for the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The Names (2025) is her debut novel. Inspired by the idea that a single decision can lead to dramatically different futures, Knapp structures the story around three possible lives shaped by the name a mother chooses for her son. The novel examines domestic violence, generational trauma, and the possibility of breaking free from inherited patterns. It became a bestseller and won the British Book Awards’ Debut Novel of the Year in 2026. Knapp lives just outside London with her husband and their dog.
