About

Hyeseung Song is a first-generation Korean American writer and painter whose work explores identity, family, mental health, and the relationship between creativity and self-discovery. Raised in Texas by Korean immigrant parents, she studied philosophy at Princeton University before pursuing further studies at Harvard Law School and Harvard Graduate School, eventually leaving academia to follow her artistic path. Song is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant for figurative painting. Her artwork has been exhibited in group and solo shows, and she has taught at institutions including the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Docile is her debut book, drawing on her experiences of cultural displacement, psychological struggles, and the pressure to meet conventional definitions of success. Through writing and painting, she explores what it means to find self-worth beyond achievement and expectation.
