About

Daanika Kamal is a Pakistani researcher, writer, and academic from Karachi whose work focuses on gender, law, gender-based violence, and women’s access to justice. She has worked across the development, legal, and academic sectors, examining the social and institutional barriers faced by women and girls. Based in London, she holds a PhD in Law from Queen Mary University of London and is a Lecturer in Law at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research investigates how legal systems and social attitudes shape responses to domestic abuse and violence against women. The Feminisms of Our Mothers, published by Zubaan in 2024, is her first literary anthology. Bringing together women’s reflections on their mothers, the collection explores how feminist consciousness develops across generations and how women negotiate the tensions between tradition, personal freedom, and social change. Her academic monograph, Domestic Violence in Pakistan: The Legal Construction of ‘Bad’ and ‘Mad’ Women, was published by Oxford University Press in 2025.
