About

Horacio Castellanos Moya is a Honduran-born Salvadoran novelist and journalist known for his dark humour, restless prose, and unflinching portrayals of political violence and psychological turmoil in Central America. Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in 1957, he grew up in El Salvador and later worked as a journalist and editor in several Latin American countries. His writing often examines the lingering effects of civil war, authoritarianism, exile, and ideological conflict on individuals and families. His acclaimed novels include Senselessness, Revulsion: Thomas Bernhard in San Salvador, and Tyrant Memory. Several of his books form part of a connected fictional universe centred on the Aragón family, including The Dream of My Return. After experiencing threats related to his writing, Castellanos Moya lived in exile in various countries. He currently teaches creative writing and media at the University of Iowa.
