About

Sara Torres (born 1991) is a Spanish poet, novelist, and academic from Gijón, Asturias. Her writing explores lesbian desire, queer identity, the body, and the complex connections between love, grief, and intimacy. She studied literary theory and earned a doctorate from Queen Mary University of London, where her research focused on lesbian literature, desire, and queer forms of identity. Torres first gained recognition as a poet, receiving the Gloria Fuertes Poetry Prize in 2014 for her debut collection, La otra genealogía. Her first novel, Lo que hay (X Is Where I Am), appeared in 2022 and received the Javier Morote Award for Best New Author from the Spanish Confederation of Booksellers’ Guilds and Associations. Known for combining poetic language with philosophical inquiry, Torres challenges conventional ideas about relationships and romantic attachment, making her one of the distinctive contemporary voices exploring queer experience in Spanish literature.
