Chiren Kina is a Japanese novelist whose work explores the complexities of human relationships, social hierarchies, and the darker sides of contemporary society. She began writing during her student years and made her professional debut after winning the R-18 Literature Prize for Women by Women. Kina gained widespread attention with her novel Please Form Pairs (二人一組になってください), published in Japan in 2024. Blending psychological suspense, horror, and social commentary, the novel examines bullying, exclusion, and the pressure to conform within teenage social groups. It became a bestseller in Japan, selling more than 130,000 copies in print, and introduced Kina to English-language readers. Her distinctive approach combines an unsettling survival-game premise with a critical look at the need for acceptance and the consequences of social cruelty.
