Veronica Chapa is an American author, essayist, and award-winning copywriter with a master’s degree in advertising from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Based in the Chicago area, she draws on her interest in history, cultural identity, and storytelling in her fiction. Her debut novel, Malinalli (2025), reimagines the life of Malinalli, also known as La Malinche, the Indigenous woman who served as an interpreter and intermediary during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire. Blending historical fiction with elements of mythology and imaginative storytelling, Chapa explores colonialism, cultural identity, power, and the complexities of historical memory. Through the perspective of a woman whose legacy has been debated for centuries, the novel revisits Mexico’s colonial past and examines how women’s voices and experiences are represented in history.
