About

Donia Bijan is an Iranian-American author and chef born in Tehran, Iran. Her family left the country in 1978 during the Islamic Revolution and eventually settled in the United States. After studying French literature at the University of California, Berkeley, she trained at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in Paris and built a successful career as a chef before turning to writing. Her memoir, Maman’s Homesick Pie: A Persian Heart in an American Kitchen (2011), explores immigration, cultural identity, family, and the emotional connections carried through food. Her debut novel, The Last Days of Café Leila (2017), follows an Iranian family whose lives are shaped by exile, loss, and the longing for home. Bijan’s work blends Persian cultural heritage with the immigrant experience, examining how food, memory, and family preserve a sense of belonging across generations.
