About

Sheila Heti is a Canadian writer known for her experimental fiction, philosophical inquiries, and genre-blurring approach to storytelling. Born in Toronto in 1976, she explores identity, creativity, relationships, motherhood, and the uncertainties of modern life through unconventional narratives that often combine autobiography, fiction, and philosophical reflection. Her acclaimed works include How Should a Person Be? (2010), which blends fiction and real-life conversations to examine art and friendship, and Motherhood (2018), a reflective exploration of the decision whether to have children. Her novel Pure Colour (2022) combines philosophical speculation with elements of fantasy to contemplate existence, grief, and the natural world. Heti’s writing challenges traditional literary forms, inviting readers to question personal choices, social expectations, and the boundaries between lived experience and artistic creation.
