Sima Samar

Sima Samar is an Afghan physician, educator, and human rights advocate whose life and work have focused on healthcare, education, and the rights of women and girls. She founded the Shuhada Organization, served as Afghanistan’s first Minister of Women’s Affairs, and chaired the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission for many years. Her 2024 memoir, Outspoken, reflects on her experiences and Afghanistan’s turbulent modern history.
