Mick Herron is a British novelist and short-story writer best known for his acclaimed Slough House espionage series. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, he studied English literature at the University of Oxford and worked as a subeditor while developing his writing career. He now lives in Oxford and writes full-time. Unlike many writers of spy fiction, Herron has never worked in intelligence; instead, he draws on his observations of bureaucracy, ambition, and human behaviour to create a distinctive fictional world. Herron’s first novel, Down Cemetery Road, was published in 2003. Slow Horses, released in 2010, launched the series featuring the irreverent Jackson Lamb and his team of disgraced MI5 officers. Herron’s work has won major crime-writing honours, including the CWA Gold Dagger and the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger. The Slough House novels have been adapted into the award-winning television series of the same name, starring Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, introducing Herron’s darkly comic vision of British espionage to a global audience.
