About

Yann Martel is a Canadian novelist best known for his internationally acclaimed novel Life of Pi (2001), which won the Booker Prize in 2002. Born in Salamanca, Spain, in 1963 to Canadian parents, he grew up in several countries, including Costa Rica, France, Mexico, and Canada, experiences that influenced his interest in cultural diversity and philosophical questions. His fiction often explores faith, survival, storytelling, and the relationship between humans and the natural world. Life of Pi follows an Indian teenager stranded on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger, blending adventure with reflections on spirituality, truth, and the power of imagination. Other notable works include Beatrice and Virgil (2010) and The High Mountains of Portugal (2016). Through imaginative narratives and philosophical depth, Martel examines how stories shape our understanding of reality and help people navigate uncertainty.
