Tara June Winch (born in 1983) is an award-winning Australian author of Wiradjuri heritage, known for exploring Indigenous identity, cultural memory, family, and the lasting effects of colonisation. Born in Wollongong, New South Wales, she grew up in the coastal community of Woonona. Her Wiradjuri heritage and connection to Indigenous Australian culture have profoundly influenced her writing, particularly her interest in language, belonging, and the experiences of Aboriginal communities. Beyond fiction, Winch has worked in film writing and wrote the screenplay for Carriberrie (2018), a documentary celebrating Indigenous Australian dance and song. She is based in France and continues to develop literary projects that bring Indigenous Australian histories and perspectives to international readers. Her work combines lyrical storytelling with a commitment to preserving cultural heritage and giving visibility to communities whose experiences have often been excluded from dominant historical narratives.
